The Swiss national football team (also known as the Schweizer Nati in German, La Nati in French and Squadra nazionale in Italian) is the national football team of Switzerland and is controlled by the Swiss Football Association.

History

Its best performances in the World Cup have been reaching the quarter-finals three times, in 1934, 1938 and when the country hosted the event in 1954. Switzerland likewise won silver at the 1924 Olympics. The 2002 U-17 European Championship was won by the Nati.

In 2006, Switzerland set a FIFA World Cup record by being eradicated from the contest in spite of not conceding a goal, losing to Ukraine in a penalty shootout in the last 16, by failing to score a single penalty – getting the primary national team in Cup history to do this.

Switzerland co-hosted the Euro 2008 together with Austria and was accordingly mechanically qualified. Switzerland played all matches of group A in Basel. After losing the opening game 0–1 to the Czech Republic and the second game 1–2 versus Turkey, they were already annihilated from their home tournament after only two games. Consolation came from the 2–0 victory over Portugal in the final group stage game.

World Cup 1954

It was one of the best performances of Switzerland in World Cup 1954 as they reached in the Quater finals for the 3rd time after 1934 and 1938. In one of the quarter-finals the World Cup holders Uruguay sent England out of the tournament, likewise by 4-2. Also Germany dispatched Yugoslavia 2-0, and Austria beat the host nation Switzerland in the game that saw the most goals in any World Cup match, 7-5.

The winners of the league are promoted to the Super League, and the bottom two teams are relegated to the 1. Liga. The second placed team enters a two-legged playoff versus the 9th placed team in the Super League, the winner playing in the higher division next season.

Swiss Challenge league

The Swiss Challenge league was named Nationalliga B until summer 2003. In the past Liechtenstein’s FC Vaduz played in the Challenge League. They were promoted to the Super League following the 2007-08 season.

Ten Reasons Why Switzerland Could Win

1. History of the Greece-Switzerland games: 10 played, 5 wins for Switzerland, 3 draws, 2 wins for Greece.
2. History of the “duels” among Hitzfeld and Rehhagel: 9 wins for Hitzfeld, 6 for Rehhagel (Bundesliga games)
3. Swiss Strikers score more: N’Kufo has scored in all three former games, Frei has scored versus Latvia.
4. Swiss Determination – the win versus Latvia might have given Switzerland new confidence.
5. Cheese fame – while Greece only has feta, Switzerland has Gruyère, Appenzeller, Emmentaler etc.
6. Swiss Drinks – Ovomaltine and Rivella are more widely known and esteemed than Ouzo.
7. Swiss Mountains are Higher.
8. Sports Associations HQ are located in Switzerland – FIFA, UEFA, IOC.
9. The recent earthquake reached a magnitudo 5,1 Richter. Switzerland will undertake to do better in Piraeus.
10. Switzerland will win, because no other result is acceptable.

Now in World Cup 2010 South Africa, Switzerland has qualified again for the World Cup. The World Cup tickets of all matches are now available for sale. Football tickets of all the matches of World Cup are for sale at ticket4football.com, you may buy the Switzerland World Cup Tickets for it is the upcoming matches and World Cup Football tickets of other teams on this website.
